The New Year is around the corner and we’ve had an exciting 2018 full of actions behind us…
As THE Innovation Platform Connecting China with Europe, TechCode Germany Team has been non-stop throughout the whole year:
we hosted the 100th China Business, Venture & Networking Meetup,
we produced 4 editions of Path to China Pitch Battle,
we organized 2 editions of China Deep Dive Business Matching Trip,
we teamed up with big corporates to link start-ups with established players,
we established an exchange platform to bridge the two major innovation capitals Beijing and Berlin…

Open Innovation: Start-up meets Corporate
Porsche Next OI: Global Developer Challenge
Kicked-off in February this year, the NEXT OI Competition targets on identification of groundbreaking ideas and their implementation on the next generation Porsche cars. Partnering with the leading sportscar maker, TechCode scouted 50+ hot future mobility start-ups from developer communities across whole China. The final was held in Berlin on 19th May during the Formula-E Berlin ePrix, with the team AUTOmator became the winner out of the 7 global finalists.
Vodafone Enterprise Plenum China Day
Fascinating China insights, bracing strategy discussions and top-class speakers including Ms. Brigitte Zypries… all these are just part of the fully-packed China Day: The New Silk Road delivered to the Vodafone Enterprise Plenum on 18th October in Berlin – three TechCode member start-ups: Mobike, Anacode, Glymz have also got the chance to pitch their innovative solutions and products to the big players!
“Path to China” Pitch Battle Series
Pitch Battle – APW Edition
This year’s TechCode “Path to China” Pitch Battle Series kicked off during the 2018 Asia Pacific Week on 25th April in Berlin. Final winner picked by the juries – MedTech project Dopavision was awarded with a business-matching trip to explore opportunities in the Chinese healthcare market!
Pitch Battle – Beijing Edition
On 13th June at TechCode Berlin, 10 startup teams battled for tickets to Beijing! We are proud to send the fashion new material startup Vivify Textiles and the automotive safety project Letos on around-trip to China’s innovation capital and to participate in the 2018 OTEC global final there!
Pitch Battle – Shanghai Edition
Eleven cool start-up teams battled on 15th August at TechCode Berlin for a coveted spot to the Shanghai Free-Trade-Zone for the 2018 Overseas Talents Innovation Conference. After hours of intensive pitch battle, LPWAN IoT solution developer MatchX, AI agent platform own.space and sustainable agriculture project Ari.farm were the proud winners!
Pitch Battle – Mobility Edition
Breathtaking innovations made the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 an unforgettable experience this September. Beyond leading industrial giants, startups are also playing increasingly important roles across the entire mobility sector. Check out the pitch battle at the New Mobility World Lab, this year`s special prize “Future Mobility Startup Trip China” goes to the stereoscopic imaging solution developer Foresight Automotive, congratulations!
China Deep Dive: Business Connected
Berlin Meets Beijing: Innovation Alliance
This April, a business delegation led by the Berlin Major Ms. Ramona Pop traveled to China. The group consists of policy makers, organizations, established companies as well as start-up founders from Berlin. A strategic cooperation agreement was signed between TechCode and City Berlin, followed by the opening of our “Berlin-Beijing Innovation Exchange Hub” at the heart of Zhongguancun Science & Technology Park. A coffee with our Global CEO Erica, of course, could not be missed!
Doing Business in Shanghai & Yangtze River Delta
This year`s China Deep Dive: Shanghai Edition focused on connecting German “Hidden Champions” with opportunities in the Chinese market. Guided by TechCode, a group of 20 entrepreneurs and industry 4.0 experts from Germany visited Shanghai, Jiashan and Dayun in the “Yangtze River Delta” region in September, carried out effective business matching and roadshows with local government leaders, investors and business partners.
Community Event Highlights
Asia Pacific Week – Making Future Mobility
The annual tech & biz gala initiated by the City of Berlin brought together players from Asia and Europe in a constructive exchange on the opportunities and challenges of future-relevant topics, among which digitization and entrepreneurship. Beyond various tech events hosted throughout the entire week, TechCode organized the mobility panel series Making Future Mobility where experts debated on why new markets need to form strong alliance to push the future of mobility out of its comfort zone.
Lightning Hackday & Tech Sessions
Partnering with Fulmo, the Berlin-based Lightning group, the Lightning Hackday series continued to draw top crypto experts from around the world! Check the wrap-up of the April & June Lightning Hackday Weekend hosted at TechCode Berlin, as well as a new Meetup Series #Lightning Session launched in October.
Potsdam Health-IT-Talk
Impressive startups from the Brandenburg region presented their products and solutions. Real-time vital data monitoring, tele-monitoring, self-learning software platform for the development of new diagnostic tests and therapies, stratification of clinical trials and virtual ward rooms for pre- and post-operative care are just some of the key words companies have come up with. The cozy event & co-working space at TechCode Potsdam was well filled in October!
